Black on black 740i on M-Parallels for sale on CL.
Filler image because no full pictures of the car in the ad.
It even has the (probably) CD-based navigation system!
I could sell the M3 and buy this and probably have money left over. Huston, we have a huge problem.

The fun factor isn’t there. I have a friend with a 750iL of this generation and it’s dope as hell, but he would trade it for an M3 guaranteed.

..does he wanna trade for an M3? Because I’d happily trade. A 7-series is more my style than an M3 I’ve learned.

Basically my reaction when I saw it.

SOoooOooOooo much more to go wrong. Wonderful cars like this depreciate so aggressively for extremely good reasons.
Anyway, take it from someone who’s frame limits him to the big body sedans and trucks, they get old quick.

Do it. I would buy your m3 tomorrow, if it were manual

Like what? It doesn’t have some fancy suspension system or anything crazy that I know of. There’s the two extra cylinders, but I don’t think the V8 is particularly unreliable. I’d have to read up on them more to know what the problem areas are though.
I’d much rather have the comfort of a big body sedan than my tiny little sedan that seats three people and beats you up over bumps. That gets old quick.

Yeah, I’m hoping that isn’t an issue if I do sell it. I don’t think it will be, but you never know.

7’s from all generations have so many little bits ALL OVER the place. Sure it’s not as bad as the past couple of generation of the 7, but I remember riding around in these things (I went to an unbearably wealthy private school during this generation) random sensors were always failing, check engines lights constantly, rattles and squeaks in the AC system at certain speeds and temps, and that’s when they were new.
I had a friend with a 2000 that he just got rid of. The car had a lot of charm and class, but it constantly broke and everything single replacement part was insanely priced. He was able to do all the work himself, but he spent almost $10,000 in 2 1/2 years keeping the thing in acceptable condition (to him that meant everything worked).
I’m not saying that’s not an awesome car you posted there, but definitely don’t think that going from a 3 to a 7 is no biggie. It’s a big biggie.

You’ll be fine, its a well serviced and documented M car. Aren’t you in Missouri? Be careful when showing it if you do sell, go to a police station

You could apply everything you just said to any BMW really. People always say they’re expensive to own, and so far even with us having to redo most of the suspension on mine (which consists of a lot of M-specific components) it hasn’t been bad at all. I know it’ll be a change, but I don’t think it’s going to be too, too drastic.

Oh trust me, I will be INSANELY careful now. My dad would be coming with me anyway and we’d most certainly meet in a safe place.

\Gives best friend and another former Marine the bolt rifle drops him off a half mile from meeting place...
